TO TEN COMMON INTERIOR REDESIGN QUESTIONS

For questions 1-6 and their answers, please see my Oct. & Nov. 2021 blogs.

7. Should all my walls be the same color?

If you have an open floor plan — for example: living, dining, family room and kitchen all open to each other — then it is good to connect the rooms by flowing a particular color scheme through the rooms for continuity and good flow.

In rooms where doors are kept closed like bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry rooms or dens, personalize them by giving them their own color scheme. However, if any of these spaces open into
a bathroom, the colors should relate to each other.

8. How do I layer throw pillows?

Choose one décor trend (minimalist, geometric, monochromatic), and pick one to three statement throw pillows that are print heavy and trend-driven. Next, balance these with throw cushions that adhere to the same color theme but are less chaotic.

9. What size chandelier is right for my dining room?

Add the length + width of the room in feet. This should be the diameter of the light fixture in inches. That’s the ideal size for an overhead light fixture in that particular room!

So, if you have a 15’ x 15’ dining room, here’s the calculation required: 15 feet + 15 feet = 30 inch wide light fixture

10. How do I figure out my design style?

Don’t go on Pinterest and copy a style. Be authentic to yourself. Our spaces should reflect who we are, and they can become environments that meet our needs both aesthetically and purposefully. Pick a color scheme that inspires you. Acquire pieces that speak to you. Start paying attention to what colors, materials, textures, and shapes make you feel happy, creative, or whatever it is you like to feel.
